Motorcycle Safety Foundation - Courses

Every Rider should take advantage of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation courses. Whether you have been riding for years, or just beginning, you WILL learn things which COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE! Best of all, the course is free (costs up to $250 in other states) and it will probably provide a discount on your insurance.

BRC (Beginner Rider Course): is designed to teach people who have never ridden or who do not have their license or haven't ridden in a long time. This course takes you through the basics leading up to the knowledge and skills test for licensing. It is recommended that you have a minimum of either a valid automobile license, or have successfully completed a basic driver education program. Other enrollment requirements include: Parental permission for students under the age of eighteen near legal riding age; the ability to ride a bicycle; completion of a waiver form. Motorcycles are provided (Helmets can be provided, if necessary).

A valid Pennsylvania Motorcycle Permit or Class M License, is necessary in order to participate in this program. Upon successful completion of the program, a permit holder will be licensed.

ERC (Experienced Rider Course): to enroll the riders should have a minimum of three months riding experience that includes riding in a variety of situations: residential streets, freeways, rural and congested roadways. A valid motorcycle license or endorsement is required. The rider will also need: a street legal motorcycle that passes the instructor inspection; proof of insurance coverage for the motorcycle used in the training; proof of medical insurance; a completed waiver form and parental permission if under the age of eighteen. The ERC is open for passengers and riders. The passenger must attend all classroom and range sessions, must sign the waiver and as with the riders, come wearing proper riding attire. NOTE: HOG Chapter affiliates should check with their chapter Safety Director before registering independently.
